Here are six reasons that you might be rejected for a job based on a background check. You Have an Extensive Criminal History. You Lied On Your Resume. Your Credit History is Poor. If you think there are mistakes, contact the background reporting company to explain the mistakes and ask that they fix them. Include any supporting documentation you have with your request.
Mistakes on background checks can cause you to be denied credit, housing, or employment.
A red flag in a background check is anything alarming or concerning about a persons past. This could be a history of breaking the law, lying about work experience or education, or other serious issues. However, not all red flags are the same. Some might be small and not that serious, depending on the job.
Get in touch with the consumer reporting agency, identify the inaccurate/errors in the report, and request that the company correct the report based on evidence you provide. You should be specific and clear in identifying the inaccurate information.
If they discover you lied about your qualifications, they may develop a poor view of you and disqualify you from consideration as a candidate. Lying might result in you being added to a do-not-hire list, which can make it challenging for you to pursue other opportunities within the organization.

The only way to remove or update your information from an FCRA background check or regulated website is to contest the accuracy records or provide proof of expungement or sealing. Some employers are allowed to see certain expunged or sealed cases on an FCRA check.
