By form. To change your address with the IRS, you may complete a Form 8822, Change of Address (For Individual, Gift, Estate, or Generation-Skipping Transfer Tax Returns) and/or a Form 8822-B, Change of Address or Responsible Party Business and send them to the address shown on the forms.
If you want to change your bank account or routing number for a tax refund, call the IRS at 800-829-1040.
User ID: Most peoples user ID is their email address. If yours is not and you cant remember it, select Forgot User ID from the PTIN system login page. Your user ID will be emailed to you.
If you need to make a change or adjustment on a return already filed, you can file an amended return. Use Form 1040-X, Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, and follow the instructions.
To update the email address where messages are sent, select the Settings link on the top right in your Secure Messaging inbox. Then follow on-screen instructions to update your email address. If you submitted a manual consent form, contact your IRS agent to make account updates.
The IRS does not accept tax-related questions by email.
