Years ago when I first got into digital raw photography, my photo editing process was.. well, pretty much non-existent. I would open a raw image in Lightroom, I would scroll through the Develop panel, and I would move sliders left and right without really understanding what I should be doing and in what order in order to create a photograph out of the gray, dull, RAW image that I saw in front of me. After plenty of failed attempts, I realized that my process or lack thereof needed structure. A series of steps, each with its own clearly defined goal, so that anytime I would sit down to edit a photo, I would know where to start, where I was going next, and where I would ultimately finish. So today Im going to share with you my own 10 step RAW photo processing framework. It sounds rather official butits really not. These are simply the steps which work best for me and the way that I approach photo processing. By the way the focus of this video will be on the framework itself, so

That's why you need to be familiar with RAW image editors. Yes, you read that right: a RAW file cannot be edited or processed in just any image editor. RAW editors allow you to adjust almost anything you can imagine: exposure, sharpness, color, noise, and more.
No - the aperture is set by the physical blades in the lens when you take the photo; a RAW "image" contains the readings from the sensor when the photo was taken, so there's no way you can go back and modify the light which was captured by the sensor.
With the new pixel layer selected use “Filter | Camera Raw Filter…” from the Photoshop menu. You'll find it near to the top of the menu. When you select this option, you'll see Adobe Camera Raw open, displaying your image for editing. You can now apply any adjustments to the image, after which click the OK button.
Or, in Photoshop, choose Edit > Preferences > Camera Raw (Windows) or Photoshop > Preferences > Camera Raw (macOS). Select Raw Defaults from the Camera Raw Preferences dialog box. Select the default setting that you want to modify and do one of the following: Click the menu icon next to the default setting.
With the image open in Photoshop click the Filter menu where you'll see the “Camera Raw Filter…” option near to the top. Click this to open the image in Adobe Camera Raw. After making your adjustments in Camera Raw, click the OK button to apply the adjustments to your image.
Using photo editing software like Capture One, you can easily transform your RAW images by adjusting elements like white balance, colors, shadows and highlights. To share and display your final edit, simply export it as a JPEG. The RAW file name extension depends on your camera brand – Canon uses . CR2, Nikon uses .

Many professional photographers shoot in RAW because the format captures the highest level of detail. It can often be easier to edit exposure later with a RAW file. However, shooting in JPEG has its benefits, since their smaller file sizes allow you to shoot more images at once and transfer files faster.
You can set raw defaults based on the ISO values of your raw images. Starting with Adobe Camera Raw version 12.3, you can quickly create an ISO adaptive preset and set it as the default for your raw images. and import an image with ISO 800, the Luminance Noise Reduction will be set to 5.
Unfortunately, you can't change the focus in a single captured RAW file. The RAW file includes all of the information captured by your sensor, but the focus point is dependent upon the optics. Some cameras do allow “focus bracketing”. With that feature, your camera captures multiple images at different focus points.
