The Azure Monitor activity log is a platform log that provides insight into subscription-level events. The activity log includes information like when a resource is modified or a virtual machine is started. You can view the activity log in the Azure portal or retrieve entries with PowerShell and the Azure CLI.
Use the Log Analytics workspaces menu to create a workspace. In the Azure portal, enter Log Analytics in the search box. Select Add. Select a Subscription from the dropdown. Use an existing Resource Group or create a new one. Provide a name for the new Log Analytics workspace, such as DefaultLAWorkspace.
Log monitoring and analytics work together to ensure applications are performing optimally and to determine how systems can improve. Log analytics also helps identify ways to make infrastructure environments more predictable, efficient, and resilient.
The following methods let you query data using Log Analytics query language, which is the same for Azure Data Explorer. Use Azure Data Explorer to query data in Azure Data Lake. Use Azure Data Explorer to ingest data from a Storage Account. Use Log Analytics workspace to query ingested data using Logs Ingestion API .
A Log Analytics workspace is a unique environment for log data from Azure Monitor and other Azure services, such as Microsoft Sentinel and Microsoft Defender for Cloud. Each workspace has its own data repository and configuration but might combine data from multiple services.
Log analytics involves searching, analyzing, and visualizing machine data generated by your IT systems and technology infrastructure to gain operational insights.
Go to the Log Analytics dashboard by clicking on the Dashboard button in the top menu. On the dashboard page, click on the Tables tab in the left menu. This will display a list of all of the tables in the demo environment. To view the contents of a table, click on the name of the table in the list.
Log Analytics collects data from the Connected Sources in your OMS workspace and stores it in OMS repository. The data that is collected from each is defined by the Data Sources that you configure. Data in the OMS repository is stored as a set of records.
