In order to mass edit, all records in the list view must be the same record type, and you must have a filter for record type on the list view. If you don't have a filter by record type in your list view you won't be able to do inline editing. Here's our list view on accounts, and we can see that there is no pencil icon, which would indicate that mass editing is available. We can see that these are the same record type. So let's add that to the filters. We'll click the filter icon and choose Add Filter and add the record type field to it. Then select an operator and a record-type value. Once the filter is added, now, your list view has inline editing available. You can also do a mass edit of your records and make changes to multiple records at once.
