In Tools > Options > (or Debug > Options) > Debugging > General, select Edit and Continue in the right pane.
A text editor is a type of computer program that edits plain text. Such programs are sometimes known as "notepad" software. Word pad and note Pad for windows and simple text and text edit for the mac are common text editors.
Visual Studio Code is a streamlined code editor with support for development operations like debugging, task running, and version control. It aims to provide just the tools a developer needs for a quick code-build-debug cycle and leaves more complex workflows to fuller featured IDEs, such as Visual Studio IDE.
The Text Editor toolbar, which is the row of buttons under the menu bar in Visual Studio, helps make you more productive as you code. For example, you can toggle IntelliSense completion mode, increase or decrease a line indent, or comment out code that you don't want to compile.
VSCode is more than a text editor, but that's not part of your question. It's considered a good text editor because it edits text well. Whether it can perform other functions or not would lead people to consider it a good IDE (or not) but has no bearing on it being a text editor.
Visual Studio Code: Free open source text editor created for developers writing code. Package manager: Software that is designed to help manage other programs that are installed or need to be installed on a device.
The best alternative is Notepad++, which is both free and Open Source. Other great apps like Notepad are Sublime Text, Atom, Vim and Kate. Notepad alternatives are mainly Text Editors but may also be Code Editors or IDEs.
Atom, Visual Studio, Eclipse, IntelliJ IDEA, and WebStorm are the most popular alternatives and competitors to Visual Studio Code.
Notepad isn't just for taking notes and opening readme files. You can also use Notepad to make basic computer programs. You can do this by creating batch files that run scripts in the Windows Command Prompt. You can also write lines of code inside Notepad.
So is Visual Studio Code the best code editor? For most web-related development, the answer is yes. While you can use Visual Studio Code for mobile application development, it does require more setting up than you'd have to do if you used Android Studio Code for Android development.
