So I was a professional contemporary dance artist for about a decade, and I just choreographed and danced and performed and taught a lot of dance. I had a whole bohemian lifestyle globetrotting, but it was a big struggle. So when I turned about 30, I knew that it was time to stop my dance career. I just threw my back out one too many times and I started to put the feelers out to see what would be the next step. I started looking at these certificate programs online with UW. I had heard a lot of great things about UW its a wonderful school and the certificates can be really great. But they were just so expensive for where I was at as a self-employed person, as an artist, really struggling to run from gig to gig, just never really knowing what the next thing would be. The actual much more difficult application process was the scholarship process. I worked so hard on that essay and I, you know, centered around to my mom and my aunt to make sure that all of the grammar was correct before

Be Professional: You will want to be honest in your scholarship essay, but you need to be careful that your writing is interesting without being too casual. You dont have to be completely formal, but avoid slang and make sure that your writing is polished.
Dont be afraid to get personal. Share something about who you are. This is your chance to elaborate on elsewhere on your application you wouldnt have had the opportunity to do so. Telling your story makes an essay genuine and ultimately more memorable to the scholarship committee.
Although it is important to write in an academic and professional manner, that does not mean your essay must be rigid and formal. Make the committee connect to you on a personal level by illustrating personal stories and accomplishments.
How to write a scholarship application letter Review the organizations requirements. Include your contact information. Introduce yourself and why youre applying. Discuss your major accomplishments. List your unique skills or qualities. Express your interest in your education or career. Conclude and thank the reader.
Unless specified otherwise, scholarship essays should always use the following formatting: Double spaced. Times New Roman font. 12 point font.
Dont quote others in your essay. Its great that you know what others say, but scholarship and or college admission committees want to know your thoughts, not what Benjamin Franklin, Martin Luther King, JR. or Betsy Ross may have said. Dont write an essay that reads like a newspaper editorial.
