Create a drawing in Google Docs On your computer, open a document. In the top left, click Insert Drawing. New. Insert shapes, lines or text with the editing tools.
How to Add Captions to Your Images in Google Docs Use the drawing option to add caption to images. Insert a table and then add caption text. Use the in-line text to create captions.
To add a caption to an image in Google Docs, select the image, click In Line on the toolbar, and then type the caption below the image. You can also insert your image as a drawing, and then use Googles drawing tools to add a caption.
Do this by selecting the field code (if you only want to update the one field code) or the entire document (if you want to update all field codes) and pressing F9. Your numbering should now be reset for your captions, just as you want.

Use In Line Text to Caption an Image Insert a picture into a Google Docs document. Select the image and hit the In Line option on the toolbar. Click under the image and type your caption. Select the text and adjust its color, alignment, and size from the options on the top toolbar.
Open a blank document, right click the normal style and set the language of your choice (Modify Style/Format/Language). You can then open the document you were working on, and the caption labels should show in the desired language. Save this answer.
