Hi, Im Rob. Welcome to Math Antics! In this lesson, were going to talk about the Distributive Property, which is a really useful tool in Algebra. And if you watched our video called The Distributive Property in Arithmetic, then you already know the basics of how the Distributive Property works. The key idea is that the Distributive Property allows you to take a factor and distribute it to each member of a group of things that are being added or subtracted. Instead of multiplying the factor by the entire group as a whole, you can distribute it to be multiplied by each member of the group individually. And in that previous video, we saw how you can take a problem like: 3 times the group (4 + 6) and simplify it two different ways. You could either simplify what was in the group first, OR you could use the distributive property to distribute a copy of the factor 3 to each member of the group, and no matter which way you go, you get the same answer. But in Algebra, things are a little

The distributive property of multiplication over addition is applied when you multiply a value by a sum. For example, you want to multiply 5 by the sum of 10 + 3. As we have like terms, we usually first add the numbers and then multiply by 5. But, ing to the property, you can first multiply every addend by 5.

Together the next term is negative eight x.
When you distribute something, you are dividing it into parts. In math, the distributive property helps simplify difficult problems because it breaks down expressions into the sum or difference of two numbers.
To apply the distributive property to an algebraic expression, you multiply each term inside the parentheses by the number or variable outside the parentheses. For example, to simplify 2(x + 3), you would multiply 2 by both x and 3, resulting in 2x + 6.
It states that any number multiplied by 1 gives the same result as the number itself. It is also called the identity property of multiplication. This is because the identity of the number remains the same.

The formula for the distributive property is expressed as, a (b + c) = (a b) + (a c); where, a, b, and c are the operands. Here, the number outside the brackets is multiplied with each term inside the brackets and then the products are added.
The property states that whether the numbers in parentheses are added before or after multiplication, the results are the same. The distributive property is especially useful when the polynomial cannot be added together prior to multiplication: 2(3 + 4x)= 6 + 8x.
The distributive property states that an expression which is given in form of A (B + C) can be solved as A (B + C) = AB + AC. This distributive law is also applicable to subtraction and is expressed as, A (B - C) = AB - AC. This means operand A is distributed between the other two operands.
