docHubs PDF format has support for document footers. You can use this capability to add a footnote to up to three different areas at the bottom of a PDF document without modifying its primary content.
One-step footnotes Place your cursor in the text and right-click. Select Insert Footnote and type your footnote text. A reference number is placed in the text and your footnote appears at the bottom of the text frame.
Click the reference number or mark in the body of the text or click Insert Show Footnotes(for endnotes, click Insert Show Endnotes).
Select the text frame and choose Object Text Frame Options. Select the Footnotes tab.
To do so, in the Acrobat Pro Order Panel, move the footnote so that it appears after the paragraph (or other content block) from which it is referenced. This will ensure the footnote appears in the right place in the reading order both in reflow view and for assistive technologies that dont read PDF tags.
Click the Layout tab, and select options that control the look of the footnote section on the page. Click OK.
To insert a footnote: Open the References tab and in the Footnotes group select Insert Footnote. Type the text for the footnote. Double-click the footnote reference mark to return to the reference mark in the document.

Footnote or endnote numbers in the text should follow punctuation, and preferably be placed at the end of a sentence. When citing the source for a quotation, the number should be placed at the end of the quotation and not after the authors name if that appears first in the text.
