in indesign regardless of what kind of document youre working on you might make references to other peoples stats and facts and research and when you make references to that you have to attribute those references theyre called footnotes so here in indesign if i go to chapter 10 folder three i have a little text document here for creating footnotes so ive got a little sample block of text well just pull this back up a little bit and im going to zoom in and i want to reference some of the facts that are here so lets see since 1984 kinship has helped create family okay thats an intro um lets see for the first 12 years okay for the first 12 years services were concentrated on the central coast okay that makes reference lets see then in response kinship opened an office there in 1996. okay i want to reference that they that is a fact that came from their annual report okay so im going to take my type tool click right at the end of that statement and then im going to say type in

How to Do Chicago Style Footnotes in Word Place your cursor in the body text where you want the footnote superscript to appear. Select the References tab in the ribbon toolbar. Select Chicago on the Style dropdown menu in the Citations and Bibliography section. Click Insert Footnote.
To locate the footnote Style; From the Home tab, in the Styles group (Style Gallery) Click the Dialog box launcher icon (1) in the bottom right corner of the group (See diagram). With the text in the Footnote selected, you should see the style (Footnote Text) highlighted (3) with a blue box around it.
If you want to change the formatting of the footnote text at the bottom of the page, select the Footnote Text Style. Click Modify, and then change the formatting options (font, size, and so on). For even more formatting options, click the Format button in the lower-left corner.
Go to the Insert menu and click Footnote to open the Footnote and Endnote box. Select the options you want in the Footnote and Endnote box. You can choose between footnotes and endnotes, numbering format, custom marks and symbols, a starting number, and whether to apply the numbering to the whole document.
Insert a footnote Click to the right of the text that needs a footnote. Click REFERENCES Insert Footnote.
If you want a special symbol in the footnote mark, click on Symbol and select the one you want. Click on Insert. Your custom footnote mark appears in your document and the insertion point moves to the bottom of the page where the footnote will appear.
Place your cursor in the text and right-click. Select Insert Footnote and type your footnote text. A reference number is placed in the text and your footnote appears at the bottom of the text frame. If created in the latest version of InDesign, your footnote will span all columns of a text frame automatically.
Go to the Insert menu and click Footnote to open the Footnote and Endnote box. Select the options you want in the Footnote and Endnote box. You can choose between footnotes and endnotes, numbering format, custom marks and symbols, a starting number, and whether to apply the numbering to the whole document.
