hi everyone as dr. Sharif in German and today Im going to continue my videos about reinforced concrete design in this video I will be talking about designing or reinforced concrete columns and this is part number one as you know reinforced concrete columns are usually vertical members that support load from slabs directly such like in case of flat plate or flat slab or it takes load from beams and transfer it to the foundation then it goes to the soil okay about loads and columns usually they are primary compression members so most of the columns are supporting completion forces however also they may resist some bending moments so like the first case when you have a column supporting beam symmetrical beams from all sides like as in case of internal columns with same spans from all sides in this case it will be mainly compression force if you have columns as the perimeter as you can see here and you have only been from one side so in this case it is expected that this beam will transf

The steps in the design of reinforced concrete columns are; Determine design life. Assess actions on the column. Determine which combinations of actions apply. Assess durability requirements and determine concrete strength. Check cover requirements for appropriate fire resistance period. Calculate min.
There are currently two common methods of steel design: The first method is the Allowable Strength Design (ASD) method. The second is the Load and Resistance Factor Design (LRFD) method. Both use a strength, or ultimate level design approach.
The design process around how to design a steel column can be broken down into the following steps: Calculating the influence area. Calculating all the loads acting on columns from the influence area. Calculating the cross-sectional area. Checking long/short columns and eccentricity of columns. Determining lateral ties.
How to Load Calculation on Column? Size of column Height 2.55 m, Length = 300 mm, Width = 600 mm. Volume of Concrete = 0.30 x 0.60 x 2.55 =0.459 m Weight of Concrete = 0.459 x 2400 = 1101.60 kg. Weight of Steel (1%) in Concrete = 0.459 x 1% x 7850 = 36.03 kg.
column, in architecture, a vertical element, usually a rounded shaft with a capital and a base, which in most cases serves as a support. A column may also be nonstructural, used for a decorative purpose or as a freestanding monument.
Load Calculation On Column Concrete Volume = 0.3 x 0.60 x 3 =0.54m Concrete Weight = 0.54 x 2400 = 1296 kg. Steel Weight (1%) in Concrete = 0.54 x 0.01 x 7850 = 42.39 kg. Total Column Weight = 1296 + 42.39 = 1338.39 kg = 13.384KN.
The steps in the design of reinforced concrete columns are; Determine design life. Assess actions on the column. Determine which combinations of actions apply. Assess durability requirements and determine concrete strength. Check cover requirements for appropriate fire resistance period. Calculate min.
Size of column depend upon several factors like load on the structure, height of the building and distance between the two column.Standard Size Of Column. Consider an example to design a plain concrete footing for a column of 400 x 400 mm cross-section.Use M20 and Fe 415 for the design purpose. Step 1: Transfer of Load at the Base of Column. Step 2: Size of the Footing. Step 3: Thickness of Footing. Step 4: Minimum Reinforcement.
Columns are used for structural reinforcement, much like beams. Columns are, basically, vertical structures transmit the compressive loads. The floor and the columns on the floors above are supported by columns; the columns of the bottom floor must be large enough to bear the accumulative weight of each floor above it.
