Your deposit is credited to your account in a matter of minutes or days, depending on your financial institutions rules and the amount of the check (as it would if you were to deposit a check with a bank teller).
Once it clears the bank and the funds are in your account, you do not have to maintain the check unless you want to. If you do not plan to keep the check, put it through a paper shredder. It is best to keep the check at least five days after it clears the bank.
You cannot close an account if it still contains funds, or if its overdrawn. To close a notice account, an account with funds or fixed term deposit account, please contact the Personal Banking Team.
