its like the law no one knows about but then they can come in and take your money based on this law. I definitely think it could happen too many many hard-working innocent businesses that dont deserve to have their money taken away. The IRS seized over $68,000 from our checking account, they said they seized it on the civil forfeiture law and based it on the fact that they thought I was structuring by the way I was depositing our money in the bank. Until the day they came in I had no idea what structuring was and he showed me hard deposits on a piece of paper, and he says it was a consistent pattern of depositing under ten thousand dollars in the bank My name is David Vocatura, my business is Vocaturas Bakery Incorporated. Im one of the owners, its a family business that started almost a hundred years ago by my grandfather in 1919, starting in Rhode Island we moved it here to Connecticut, we been here almost 60 years. Here are the steps: Sign your check. Also known as endorsing a check, you need to sign it. Write your account number below your signature. Write For deposit only below your bank account number. Deposit the check at a local branch of your bank in person.
If you write for deposit only on the back of a check made out to you and then sign your name, the check can only be deposited in your account. This is called a restrictive indorsement, and it should prevent you or any other person from cashing the check.
Key points. If you plan to deposit a large amount of cash, it may need to be reported to the government. Banks must report cash deposits totaling more than $10,000. Business owners are also responsible for reporting large cash payments of more than $10,000 to the IRS.
A check must be endorsed on the back for it to be valid for deposit. So, always sign your name in the blank space next to the X just before you bring it to the Bank. Note: You can deposit at a Bank location, through our mobile app, or at an ATM.
To be valid, a check must include a date, the payees name, the amount and an authorized signature for the checking account from which the money will be withdrawn. To receive the funds, the payee must sign, or endorse, the back of the check.
Restrictive endorsement. This type of endorsement includes your signature and the words, for deposit only. A check endorsed this way can be deposited into a bank account but not cashed. If you write for deposit only and include a bank account number, the check can be deposited only into that account.
Note that under a separate reporting requirement, banks and other financial institutions report cash purchases of cashiers checks, treasurers checks and/or bank checks, bank drafts, travelers checks and money orders with a face value of more than $10,000 by filing currency transaction reports.
To do this, you simply sign your name on the back of the check and then tell the bank teller whether you want to deposit it to a particular account or cash it. You can also use a blank endorsement when you deposit a check via mobile deposit or an ATM.
For Deposit Only is a restrictive endorsement, meaning it is not an endorsement by itself. You will need to endorse the check exactly how it appears on the front. The only exception, in some cases, if the bank allows, is for you to write the full account number and then For Deposit Only on the back.
Without a signature, the check might be sent back to the issuer, resulting in fees and delays in getting your money. Even if your bank deposits a check without a signature on the back and you see the money added to your account, that check might get rejected a week or two later.
