After removing the tick, wash the skin and hands thoroughly with soap and water. If any mouth parts of the tick remain in the skin, these should be left alone; they will be expelled on their own. Attempts to remove these parts may result in docHub skin trauma.
How to remove a tick Use clean, fine-tipped tweezers to grasp the tick as close to the skins surface as possible. Pull upward with steady, even pressure. After removing the tick, thoroughly clean the bite area and your hands with rubbing alcohol or soap and water. Never crush a tick with your fingers.
To remove a tick that is embedded in the skin, grasp the tick as close to the skins surface as possible, using tweezers if available. Pull upward with a steady, continuous motion. To ensure the whole tick is removed, try not to twist it or jerk it.
No matter which tool youre using to remove the tick, always use a cotton ball soaked in either rubbing alcohol or liquid dish soap and place it on the tick.
Apply liquid soap to a cotton ball until its soaked and gently cover the tick with the soap-soaked cotton ball for 30 seconds. The tick will stick to the cotton ball when you lift it away.
Touching it with a hot match is a common one. Others include covering it with petroleum jelly or nail polish (in theory to suffocate it), or freezing it off. These are all supposed to make the tick back out of the skin on its own.
Make sure you have removed the entire tick. Drop the tick in the Ziploc bag with some of the rubbing alcohol inside. The alcohol will kill the tick. Seal the bag and hold on to in case you need to show it to your veterinarian.
Pull upward with steady, even pressure. Dont twist or jerk the tick; this can cause the mouth-parts to break off and remain in the skin. If this happens, remove the mouth-parts with tweezers.
