Remove the embedded tick as soon as possible. The longer a tick is attached, the higher the risk of transmitting tick-borne illnesses. Follow these steps: Gently pull the tick out with tweezers by grasping its head as close to the skin as possible.
Note: Never use petroleum jelly or a hot match to kill and remove a tick. These methods dont get the tick off the skin, and can make it burrow deeper.
Tick bites can carry diseases, so its important to remove them straight away. When removing a tick, make sure not you dont squeeze the ticks body or leave the head in. If you squeeze its body or leave the head in, this can push blood back into your pet, which will increase the chance of them getting a disease.
Things to Avoid When Removing Ticks Dont try to remove an attached tick by burning it with a match or smothering it with Vaseline. Neither will work, both will let the tick stick around longer than desired, and the whole match thing yeah, those dont go well next to dog/cat fur and skin.
Just use the cotton swabs on their own to remove the tick. Twirl the cotton swab around the biting tick, applying gentle pressure but not squishing it. Continue to circle the tick until it releases its bite and instead attaches to the cotton. Be sure to clean the site to prevent infection.
If theres really a lot of ticks on the body, you may request your pet groomer to remove the ticks for a charge. Just make sure the services includes the physical removal of the ticks rather than just soaking your poor dog in a chemical dip and just letting the ticks die attached to Fido.
Use clean, fine-tipped tweezers to grasp the tick as close to the skins surface as possible. Pull upward with steady, even pressure. Dont twist or jerk the tick; this can cause the mouth-parts to break off and remain in the skin.
Removing a Tick From Your Dog You should use fine-point tweezers, to avoid tearing the tick and spreading possible infections into the bite area. Spread your dogs fur, then grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible. Very gently, pull straight upward, in a slow, steady motion.
