Symbol 1 is any auto. The auto does not have to be declared and when it was purchased makes no difference. With symbol 1, the liability claim is covered. Symbol 1 covers any auto (owned, borrowed, rented, hired) for liability.
Symbol 1 is the broadest any auto. Symbol 9 provides coverage for non-owned vehicles only. Using symbol 7 reduces the coverage to claims from vehicles listed on the policy only. Insurers sometimes use combination of symbols 8 and 9, for example, to provide coverage for hired and non-owned autos.
Symbol 1- Any Auto is the most comprehensive coverage option available on a Commercial Car insurance policy. It includes coverage for scheduled, hired, and non-owned autos, as well as other types of vehicles that may be involved in use for your business.
When symbol 1 appears next to liability coverage in the declarations, the named insured is covered for claims arising from accidents caused by any auto used in the business. This means that you are covered for claims stemming from the use of owned, hired, or non-owned autos.
Definition: Covered Auto Symbols. The Business Auto Policy uses numeric symbols to indicate the types of vehicles for which coverage is in effect. Only those symbols listed for a coverage can be used. Symbols 1 through 6 provide vehicle automatic coverage.
Accomplishing the goal of providing the broadest definition of insured vehicle without the ability to use Symbol 1 requires a combination of three covered auto symbols: 2 (Owned Autos Only), 8 (Hired Autos) and 9 (Non-Owned Autos).
Symbol 7: Scheduled Vehicles The most common type of coverage purchased for Business Auto is Symbol 7 Symbol 7 coverage refers to any scheduled or listed vehicles on your policy. It is like Personal Auto coverage.
