To close up means to eliminate all space between. Use the plain delete mark, not the delete and close up mark, unless you want the remaining words or punctuation to be joined. The insertion of a new word (or letters) in place of a struck-through word (or letters) is a single edit: a substitution.
Block symbol ( ❏ ∎ ) is a box drawing character in text based messages.
lc encircled is the editing symbol for lowercase. It means the word should start with a small letter instead of a capital one.
A vertical line delete mark is made through a single letter or mark of punctuation. The letter or punctuation to be deleted may also be circled with the delete mark. A stroke through a capital letter means set it in lowercase.
Three lines under a letter indicates it should be capitalized. If a word should be written in the lowercase, a slash is drawn through the letter.

To get the letter, character, sign or symbol ■ : ( black square ) on computers with Windows operating system: 1) Press the Alt key on your keyboard, and do not let go. 2) While keep press Alt, on your keyboard type the number 254, which is the number of the letter or symbol ■ in ASCII table.
A caret (^) indicates an addition, and a line through the text indicates a deletion or a replacement.
Transpose: The transpose mark is a line that curves around the letters, word, or words that need to be reversed. Paragraph: The paragraph mark looks like a small letter c with two longer vertical lines extending through it. Period: The period mark is a dot in a circle.
Inserting ASCII characters To insert an ASCII character, press and hold down ALT while typing the character code. For example, to insert the degree () symbol, press and hold down ALT while typing 0176 on the numeric keypad. You must use the numeric keypad to type the numbers, and not the keyboard.
