In principle, the entrepreneur who carries out a transaction is liable for the VAT. In certain cases, however, the tax liability is shifted from the executing entrepreneur to the recipient of the service. This is referred to as the reverse charge procedure.
To remove Value Added Tax or to make a reverse VAT calculation the formula is the following: Net: (Amount / 120) * 100 Easy! Divide the amount by 100 + VAT% and then multiply by 100. Thats the amount excluding VAT taxes (Net amount).
It applies to certain situations where the supplier is not established in the country where the VAT is due, or where the transaction is prone to fraud or evasion. The reverse charge mechanism has the following effects: The supplier does not charge VAT on the invoice, but indicates that the reverse charge applies.
Your supplier should only invoice you for the service or item they provided, and then advise you this payment needs the reverse charge VAT applied. All you need to do to calculate reverse charge VAT is divide the amount of the service or item by 100, and times it by 20.
How to add VAT to prices. Theres a very simple formula for each VAT rate. You multiply your price by 1.05 for a 5% VAT rate, by 1.20 for a 20% VAT rate, or leave the price as is for a 0% VAT rate.
