Going into hospital can be daunting, taking a few homely comforts can help to make your stay a bit more comfortable.A wash bag and toiletries Toothpaste and toothbrush. A travel pack of baby wipes. Facial cleansing wipes. Moisturising cream. Some makeup (if you wear it) A hairbrush or comb.
You shouldnt need to worry about nursing pads unless you have an extended stay at the hospital as your milk wont come in until day three or so, but it doesnt hurt to pack a few in case. Bring a pair of slippers flip flops that you can take off and on easily and that you wont mind throwing out.
Probably more often than you think. Aim to purchase three to four packs of 10 maternity pads before your baby is born. You need at least two packs in your hospital bag, as youll bleed the most straight after your baby is born and you may need to change your pad every hour or two.
Plenty! Buy at least two or three packs of 12 maternity pads. You may need to change your pad every hour or two hours after giving birth. This will reduce to every three hours or four hours over the next two days.
For yourself, youll probably want to pack: your birth plan and hospital notes. For the baby, you might want to pack: bodysuits, vests and sleepsuits. an outfit for going home in. a hat, scratch mittens and socks or booties. plenty of nappies. a shawl or blanket. muslin squares or bibs. a car seat for the trip home.

What to pack for labour Your birth plan. Swimmers and a towel (if there is a bath) Lip balm. A wheat pack or hot water bottle. Healthy snacks and drinks. Magazines/iPod (in case labour stops and starts) Spray bottle. Little extras like massage oils or your favourite pillow.
Most hospitals offer complimentary items like pads and non-slip socks for mom, as well as caps, shirts and swaddles, as mentioned above, for baby. These basics are all youll need while focusing on caring for your post-birth body and newborn.
