Administrators cannot delete a Custom Field on the Contact object because it is referenced in a Criteria-Based Sharing Rule.
What should a system administrator consider when deleting a custom field? Field used in workflow and assignment rules cannot be deleted. Field values should be archived before a field is deleted. Deleted fields and values can be restored from the recycle bin within 15 days.
In summary, removing the field from screens or fields or custom field context has no effect on the data itself.
First, heres a quick recap on how we delete fields in Salesforce. Simply navigate to the object: go to Setup, followed by Object Manager, and [Object Name]. Then go to Fields Relationships and find your field. Click the drop down to the right, followed by Delete.
