A sickness absence policy is a workplace policy setting out the rules and procedures for managing, recording and reporting an employees absence from work due to ill health explaining exactly whats expected from both the employer and employee.
Your employer is allowed to ask you why you are taking a sick day, including asking the nature of your ailment. However, asking questions about illnesses covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is not permissible.
There are no set rules about how often your employer should contact you while you are off sick, it all comes down to what is reasonable.
For example, if an employee is on FMLA or CFRA leave, the employer may not require the employee to answer e-mails or phone calls or attend meetings. However, depending on the reason for leave, an employee may still be able to perform some work for the employer.
Its important to check your employment contract to see what it says about sick leave and whether you are allowed to work another job while signed off. If there is a clause in your contract saying that you cant, an employer might bring disciplinary procedures against you if you break it.

Some employers may accept your resignation as they would any other, others may pay you but ask you to refrain from coming back to the workplace and other employers may terminate your contract and pay you in lieu. A welfare meeting is an initial conversation an employer has with an employee either during a period of sickness absence or following a period of sickness absence from work.
