The key is to avoid confusion about which catalog is your real catalog, to avoid clutter related to your catalog, and to avoid consuming hard drive space unnecessarily. As long as your current catalog is working properly and you have several backup copies, older files can certainly be deleted or at least archived.
This is where Lightroom stores previews of your Lightroom photos. Keep in mind that the files here are only previews of your photos. They are not the actual image files. That means that you can safely delete your catalog previews at no risk to the photos you are editing.
You need to run Lightroom under the administrator to be able to perform delete from disk. To do so go in Start/programs and right click on docHub Lightroom and then select: run as administrator. Then select the all files in the left pane of the library.
Remember that as Lightroom is a non-destructive software, it doesnt affect your original photos. Deleting the catalog only means that all the previews and edit settings that you make in Lightroom will get deleted.
