hello everyone welcome back in the last video we saw how to create an ami out of an existing ec2 instance and then how do we spin up new ec2 instances using that ami so in this video Im going to show you how to remove the mi that you have created so this would typically be when you are creating a new ami and you want to delete all array am i sad to have in your account right so first and foremost if you have seen my last video lets just go ahead and terminate our only z2 instance that we had used to create the image out of so click on action go to instance state and terminate so once this gets terminated its corresponding volumes should also get deleted so if you go to volumes you can see there are four volumes and this two volumes should get heated once that easy to is terminated so now lets go to our snapshot and we saw in the last video that EWS creates snapshots belonging to each volume and it creates an ami out of this so lets go ahead and try to delete this snapshot so go to

You cant delete a snapshot of the root device of an EBS volume used by a registered AMI. You must first deregister the AMI before you can delete the snapshot. For more information, see Deregister your AMI. You cant delete a snapshot that is managed by the AWS Backup service using Amazon EC2.
You can deregister an AMI when you have finished using it. After you deregister an AMI, you cant use it to launch new instances. When you deregister an AMI, it doesnt affect any instances that youve already launched from the AMI or any snapshots created during the AMI creation process.
When you delete or deregister an Amazon EBS-backed AMI, any snapshots created for the volume of the instance during the AMI creation process are retained. If you accidentally delete the AMI, you can launch an identical AMI using one of the retained snapshots.
As part of an Amazon EC2 instance termination, the data on any instance store volumes associated with that instance is deleted. By default, the root Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS) volume is automatically deleted.
Deregister the AMI In the navigation pane, choose AMIs. Select the AMI to deregister, and take note of its ID this can help you find the snapshots to delete in the next step. Choose Actions, Deregister. When prompted for confirmation, choose Continue.

Deregister the AMI Select the AMI to deregister, and take note of its ID this can help you find the snapshots to delete in the next step. Choose Actions, Deregister. When prompted for confirmation, choose Continue. It may take a few minutes before the console removes the AMI from the list.
If you create an AMI from an EC2 instance, you can terminate the instance and create a new one from the AMI. If you have taken a snapshot of the EBS boot volume the instances is using, you will need to register it as an AMI before you can create a new instance.
