The AIS is a critical document because it provides taxpayers a complete overview of their financial transactions during a financial year. It helps in identifying discrepancies in income or deductions, allowing taxpayers to rectify them before filing their income tax returns.
Form 26AS helps in computation of income and to claim the tax credits at the time of filing Income Tax Return (ITR) on income. A taxpayer can confirm the verification of refunds during the applicable financial or assessment year using Form 26AS.
You can do this by logging into your account on the income tax e-filing portal and selecting the AIS option. From there, you can select the relevant financial year and click on the Revise button. You will then be able to make the necessary changes to the AIS and submit it again.
The income tax department has said that Form 26AS will now reflect only TDS and TCS. Any other tax deposited such as self-assessment tax, advance tax will now be reflected in the AIS. Hence, both the documents are important to file ITR.
Importance of AIS App AIS consists of information on TDS, tax payments, interest, dividends, income tax refunds, share transactions, and other information (GST Data, Foreign Remittances, etc). As a taxpayer, you need to examine this information and provide feedback regarding the modification of their value, if needed.
Submitting the request for Rectification Go to the e-File menu and Click Rectification link. Choose the options of Order/Intimation to be rectified and Assessment Year from the dropdown list. Click Continue Select any one of the following options of Request Type from drop down list.
