Add Employer If an SEVP Portal user wants add an employer, click Add Employer. When all required fields are entered, click Save. The portal displays a success message. Please note that F-1 STEM OPT participants using the portal cannot use this feature, and the Add Employer button does not appear on their page.
Generally, you are not legally responsible to answer an employee verification request unless it is issued by a federal group. However, most employers do answer these requests as often as possible, even when not legally required. The most important thing is to only give the information you can legally give.
Students are required to add their employer information in the SEVP Portal within 10 days from the start of employment. If you miss the 10 day reporting deadline, employment updates must still be reported although the SEVP Portal will not allow OPT students to report employment that began more than 10 days in the past.
Students on post-OPT: All address, telephone and employer changes must be reported in the SEVP Portal within 10 days of the change.
DO I NEED TO REPORT EMPLOYMENT WHILE ON POST-OPT? Yes, you will do this via the SEVP Portal (not in My ASU). Once your OPT is approved and the start date is current, you will receive an email from do-not-replay.SEVP@ice.dhs.gov with directions on how to set up your SEVP Portal account.
You must report any change of employer or employer address within 10 days. If you change your employer, you must update the ISSO through our Employment/Address Update Reporting Form. You will need to submit a new I-983 every time you change your employer.
