Lesson Closure provides an opportunity for teachers to conduct a final, brief review of the lesson and to check and confirm that student learning has occurred at the conclusion of a lesson.
The most effective lesson plans have six key parts: Lesson Objectives. Related Requirements. Lesson Materials. Lesson Procedure. Assessment Method. Lesson Reflection.
Create lesson plans for a certain amount of time, then switch up the subjects and repeat the process throughout the school year. Collaborating with other teachers not only cuts down on lesson planning time, it also helps to keep lessons fresh and exciting since more than one person is working on them.
Closure allows students to summarize main ideas, evaluate class processes, answer questions posed at the beginning of the lesson, and link to both the past and the future. Closure is an opportunity for formative assessment and helps the instructor decide: 1. if additional practice is needed.
What Are the Strategies for Closing Lessons? In an effective closure, the teacher will use strategies that include reviewing and summarizing a lesson, consolidating key information, creating a link to new ideas and building anticipation for the next lesson.
Guide them to associate your lesson with what they already know. How does something you learned in todays lesson connect with something you already knew? How can you apply something you learned today to another class or subject? How can you apply what you learned today to your own life?
We need to be sure we plan time to cycle back to the what, why, and how of students learning to help them actively synthesize the parts into a whole. Lesson closure provides space for students to digest and assimilate their learning and to re- alize why it all matters.
Examples of Closure. Closure can take a number of forms. For example, for a lesson about plants and animals, tell students to discuss new things that they have learned about plants and animals.
