[Music] hi my name is Alvin Alexander with deaf daily comm and this is our tutorial on deleting text with the VI editor to demonstrate deletion commands in VI Im going to again work on the Gettysburg Address document one document that Ive already mocked up and to do this I also want to point out that Im going to start with simple commands where I delete characters first then Ill show you how to delete words then delete text on one line and then delete one or more lines to delete characters first move the cursor to the position where you want to start deleting and then just use the letter X to delete one character at a time and Ill demonstrate that here by deleting those characters that first example showed how to delete characters that were positioned to the right of the cursor next to delete characters to the left of the cursor just use the capital letter X if you know how many characters you want to delete beforehand you can also put a number before the X commands for instance

Remove the border Select the text box or shape. If you want to change multiple text boxes or shapes, click the first text box or shape, and then press and hold Ctrl while you click the other text boxes or shapes. On the Format tab, click Shape Outline, and then click No Outline.
Locate the file that you want to delete. Right-click the file, then click Delete on the shortcut menu. Tip: You can also select more than one file to be deleted at the same time. Press and hold the CTRL key as you select multiple files to delete.
To permanently delete files on Windows, send them to the Recycle Bin and then empty the Recycle Bin to delete them for good. Once the bin is empty, you cant recover the files unless you have data or file recovery software.
To delete text in Word while typing, use the Backspace and Delete keys on your keyboard to remove text while typing. On most PCs, using the Backspace key deletes text to the left of the insertion marker. Pressing the Delete key deletes text to the right of the insertion marker.
Unlock a protected document On the Review tab, in the Protect group, click Restrict Editing. In the Restrict Formatting and Editing task pane, click Stop Protection. If you are prompted to provide a password, type the password.
Select the border of the text box and then press DELETE. Make sure that the pointer is not inside the text box, but rather on the border of the text box. If the pointer is not on the border, pressing DELETE will delete the text inside the text box instead.
Generally, pressing Ctrl+A and then Del or Backspace will usually delete all text in the body of a document.

In most cases, the reason you cannot delete a file is quite simple. The file or a file from the folder is still open or being used by another program.
Open the document in Microsoft Word or another word processor. Move the mouse cursor to the last character you want to delete. Click the left mouse button to place the cursor after the last character. Press Backspace one or more times to delete the characters in front of the cursor.
