Validation Rules are a powerful data management tool in Salesforce. They prevent users from editing and saving records that dont make sense. A validation rule allows an admin to create a custom error message that prevents a record from being created or updated if certain conditions are not met.
We can use the ISCHANGED() method to lock specific fields as needed on records. Another example would be to use the OR() method to lock multiple fields on the Account object. Lets say we wanted to prevent the Name and AnnualRevenue field from being edited as well. We can add those checks inside the OR() method.
Validation Rules Navigate to Setup Object Manager. Select the object that contains the validation rule you want to disable and click Validation Rules. Select the relevant validation rule and click Edit. Uncheck the Active checkbox and click Save:
Select the profile you want to change. Click Object Settings and select the object for which you want to update the field settings. Click Edit. Under Field Permissions, for each field, specify the kind of access you want for users with this profile, and save your settings.
View by Record Types. I would choose View by Record Types. Then when the matrix appears, select the field and the profile that you what to change (i.e., field: annual revenue for the contact manager is editable). Click on that item or cell and change the field level security to read only.
