Canceling the Invoice To cancel the invoice, go to the Customer Invoicing work center. Under Invoices and Credit Memos, select the invoice you want to cancel and choose Cancel. On the New Cancellation - Invoice screen, choose Save. Note.
After a posted sales invoice has been partially or fully paid, you cannot correct or cancel it from the posted sales invoice itself. Instead, you must manually create a sales credit memo to void the sale and reimburse the customer, optionally managed with a sales return order.
You can cancel individual invoices that have an approved or paid status, without doing a return transaction. Reverse invoices can be used to remove erroneously entered invoices, and credit or debit memos.
Cancellation Canceling an invoice should only be used when an error has been made on the bill. An error can include the incorrect customer, contact or location identified on the bill. A duplicate bill for services already invoiced would be a good reason to cancel the bill.
Reversing an invoice paid with a credit note (not included in a tax return) You cannot edit or delete an invoice once its been included on a tax return. If you need to make changes or void an invoice included on a tax return, then you must cancel the original invoice by creating a credit note with the same details.
By deleting the invoice, users will be permanently removing it from their company file. On the other hand, voiding an invoice cancels a particular payment or invoice. Voiding an invoice will keep the invoice number and list it in reports but changes the amounts to zero.
Invoices are legally binding accounting documents. If you need to change an invoice, this needs to be done correctly and ing to UK law. If a business makes a mistake on an invoice they have already sent to their customer, they must cancel the invoice with a credit note and then issue a new invoice.
Voiding an invoice cancels the invoice without deleting it, thereby preserving historical information for any future audits.
