How to Apply Conditional Formatting in Excel Select the cells you want to change. Click the Cell Styles button on the Home tab. Select a conditional formatting category. Select a conditional formatting rule. Specify the formatting to use for items that meet the conditional formatting criteria. Click OK.
On the Home tab, in the Style group, click the arrow next to Conditional Formatting, and then click Highlight Cells Rules. Select the command you want, such as Between, Equal To Text that Contains, or A Date Occurring. Enter the values you want to use, and then select a format.
Conditional formatting presets Data Bars are horizontal bars added to each cell, much like a bar graph. Color Scales change the color of each cell based on its value. Each color scale uses a two- or three-color gradient. Icon Sets add a specific icon to each cell based on its value.
To remove conditional formatting from specific cells, select the cells, click the Quick Analysis button, and click Clear Format. To remove all conditional formatting from the entire worksheet,click the Conditional Formatting button on the HOME tab, point to Clear Rules, and click Clear Rules from Entire Sheet.
Change a conditional formatting rule Click in the range that contains the conditional formatting rule that you want to change. On the Home tab, click Conditional Formatting. Click Manage Rules. Select the rule, and then click Edit Rule. Make the changes that you want, click OK, and then click OK again.
There are a few ways to remove conditional formatting but keep the effects. One way is to use the Clear Rules feature. To do this, select the cells that have the conditional formatting that you want to remove. Then, go to Home Styles Clear Rules.
How to copy Excel conditional formatting Click any cell with the formatting you want to copy. Click Home Format Painter. To paste the copied formatting, click on the first cell and drag the paintbrush down to the last cell in the range you want to format. When done, press Esc to stop using the paintbrush.
Edit a Conditional Formatting Rule Click a cell in the range of an existing conditional formatting rule. Click the Conditional Formatting button on the Home tab. Select Manage Rules. Select the rule you want to edit. Click Edit Rule. Make your changes to the rule. Click OK.
