when a formula in a cell refers to its own cell then it is called circular reference in excel so lets understand what is circular reference why it occurs and how we can fix that now in cell a1 i will type a number 10 then in a2 let me type 20 in a3 let me type 13 now if i want to add these three numbers in cell a4 let me highlight a4 cell with yellow color so to add these three numbers in a4 i will use formula as sum equal to sum and i will select a1 a2 and a3 so if i extend this selection to a4 here we can see a1 to a4 that means we are referring to own cell as well i am closing the bracket pressing and you can see we are getting circular reference error if i press ok and result is coming 0 now instead of doing this if i use normal formula sum and i do not use the cell cell i use only a1 a2 and a3 then i get the correct result so how we can avoid circular reference or how we can fix the circular reference for that i will click on file and here we have options i will click on options

Will a Bad Reference Ruin My Career? A bad reference may cost you a specific job but, in general, should not ruin your career. For the most part, you generally will want to be able to provide three to five relevant references for a job application (most commonly, a company will only request three).
What to say: The company does not permit me to provide any references. I would only be able to confirm your job title, employment dates, and salary history. So it would be in your best interest to find someone else to provide a reference.
A strongly worded cease and desist letter addressed to the CEO or another person high up in the organization is more effective than arguing. List the name, complaint, and negative reference material in the letter. Tell them what they are doing, why it hurts your job prospects, and to stop sending negative references.
From your homepage, click References on the left-hand side tool bar. You will see all the references that you have entered on this page. For each reference you would like to delete, click the corresponding box on the right-hand side of the page.
California Law on Bad References ing to California employment laws, a bad reference is punishable by law. The law states that it is a misdemeanor when an employer prevents or attempts to prevent the former employee from getting a job by any misrepresentation in the bad reference letter.
If You are Concerned, Speak Up You can ask a potential employer why they chose not to extend an offer (they might not tell you) and you can speak with an attorney about your rights. You can also ask your former employer what is being said.
If a former employer provides you with a bad reference, you may wonder if you can take action against him or her. While an employer has the right to describe his or her truthful experience, the employer can face liability under defamation laws if he or she lies about an employee while giving a reference.
Legal Consequences for Bad Employment References If an employer makes negative comments about you when they are contacted for an employment reference you may be able to bring a lawsuit against them for defamation. Its important to note though that the truth is a defense to defamation.
