hi and welcome to another tutorial today were going to be taking a look at how to sort by calculated fields in tableau so this is really cool if you have a calculated feel or if you have some type of measure that you do want to be able to sort by in the future but obviously you cant sort by it and ill show you what i mean by that so lets dive right in so here were going to pull in our regions and you can see we have a set of about six regions here im going to bring in the year what im going to do is just bring in the year and make it discrete just so i just get one year i dont want all the individual dates it can uh you know sum everything up and what were going to look at today is energy usage so were going to look at this one right here were going to make a bar chart out of this so as you can see when we bring it it makes it this little quirky line chart which is not really helpful but tableau tries its best so were going to switch this over to a bar chart so as you can s

On the Analyze tab, in the Calculations group, click Fields, Items, Sets, and then click Calculated Field or Calculated Item. In the Name box, select the field or item that you want to delete. Click Delete.
Instead of going to the Analysis menu, right click on the field itself in the Dimension or Measures section and select Delete.
To edit a calculated field: In the Data pane, right-click the calculated field and select Edit. In the Calculation Editor that opens, you can do the following: Edit the name of the calculated field. Update the formula. Click OK. The view updates to reflect the changes automatically.
Delete Calculated Field Hover over the menu to the right of the field in the My Fields section. A list of actions displays. Click Delete. This opens a confirmation pop-up. Click Confirm to delete the field. Or, click Cancel to keep the field.
Open your list of data sources by clicking Data Sources in the left navigation sidebar. (If you dont see this option, go to the bottom of the sidebar and click your Account Name Data Sources instead.) Select the data source(s) you want to delete and click Delete.
Select a table. Select Click to Add Calculated Field, and then select a data type. Enter a calculation for the field, and then click OK. Type the expression yourself, or select expression elements, fields, and values to put them into the expression edit field.
Option 2: Create a Calculated Field Select Analysis Create Calculated Field. Name the field as desired. Place the following formula into the formula window: IIF([measure]=0, Exclude, Include) Click OK. Place newly created calculated field on the Filters shelf. Select desired filter option, Exclude or Include.
The key difference between calculated fields and calculated items is that: Calculated Fields are formulas that can refer to other fields in the pivot table. Calculated Items are formulas that can refer to other items within a specific pivot field.
