You can define a maximum of 255 alternate indexes in a base cluster with the UPGRADE attribute. All the alternate indexes of a given base cluster that have the UPGRADE attribute belong to the upgrade set. The upgrade set is updated whenever a base data record is inserted, erased, or updated.
To delete the base and Alternate Index clusters, delete the base using DSIVSMX IDCAMS with the DELETE CLUSTER parameters. If you delete the base, the alternate index and the path will also be deleted.
An alternate index is a key-sequenced data set containing index entries organized by the alternate keys of its associated base data records. It provides another way of locating records in the data component of a cluster. An alternate index can be defined over a key-sequenced or entry-sequenced cluster.
Go to Commerce Manager and select your catalog. Open the Catalog tab and go to Items. Click the checkboxes next to any items you want to delete. Select Delete and then Delete items to confirm.
In your COBOL program, the alternate index is identified solely by the ALTERNATE RECORD KEY clause in the FILE-CONTROL paragraph. The ALTERNATE RECORD KEY definitions must match the definitions in the catalog entry. Any password entries that you cataloged should be coded directly after the ALTERNATE RECORD KEY phrase.
The Delete Dataset function (option D) deletes a data set and uncatalogs it from the system catalog. If the data set is not cataloged, it is deleted. Enter a D in the OPTION field and specify a valid dataset name in the Dataset name field of the Dataset Utility screen to delete the data set.
In the Catalog Services panel, type a fully qualified data set name (and optionally the catalog name) for the existing entry, then enter DEL on the Command line.
To remove an existing record from an indexed or relative file, open the file I-O and use the DELETE statement. You cannot use DELETE on a sequential file. When you use ACCESS IS SEQUENTIAL or the file contains spanned records, your program must first read the record to be deleted.
