How to subtract two dates in Excel to find the difference in years Place your start and end dates into distinct cells. Prepare the DATEDIF function by typing =DATEDIF into another cell. Open the formula with an open parenthesis. Insert the start date and add a comma. Insert the end date and add a comma.
Short answer: Theres no way to have a date without a year, its simply a required part of a date. Just like the second is a required part of the time of day - if you enter, say, 1:15, the actual value will be 01:15:00 (or something like that, depending on your regional settings).
Simply by subtracting the birth date from the current date. This conventional age formula can also be used in Excel. The first part of the formula (TODAY()-B2) returns the difference between the current date and date of birth is days, and then you divide that number by 365 to get the numbers of years.
For this example, you can enter your starting dates in column A. Enter the number of months to add or subtract in column B. To indicate if a month should be subtracted, you can enter a minus sign (-) before the number (e.g. -1). Enter =EDATE(A2,B2) in cell C2, and copy down as needed.
Calculate age Data=(YEAR(NOW())-YEAR(A2))The result is the age of personthe difference between today and the birthdate in A2. This example uses the YEAR and NOW functions. If this cell doesnt display a number, ensure that it is formatted as a number or General. Learn how to format a cell as a number or date.15 more rows
Select cell B1 and type in the following formula (without quotes): =DATE(YEAR(A1)-X,MONTH(A1),DAY(A1)). Change X to the number of years you want to subtract from the date in A1.
Type =C2-B2, and then press RETURN . Excel displays the result as the number of days between the two dates (104). Select cell D2. Excel adjusts the cell references automatically to include the correct values for each row.
To calculate age in years and months in Excel: Click in the cell where you want the age to appear. Type =DATEDIF( Click the cell containing the date of birth. Type ,TODAY(),Y) Years and DATEDIF( Click the cell containing the date of birth again. Type ,TODAY(),YM) Months and press Enter.
Simply by subtracting the birth date from the current date. This conventional age formula can also be used in Excel. The first part of the formula (TODAY()-B2) returns the difference between the current date and date of birth is days, and then you divide that number by 365 to get the numbers of years.
The Excel YEAR function is very straightforward and you will hardly run into any difficulties when using it in your date calculations: =YEAR(A2) - returns the year of a date in cell A2. =YEAR(20-May-2015) - returns the year of the specified date.
