These organic compounds codeposit with the tin. When the deposit is soldered, the temperature exceeds that required to oxidize the organic portion of the deposit and the codeposited brighteners burn. This is seen as a blackening or darkening on the surface of the deposit or solder joint.
Use grade #000 steel wool and denatured alcohol or lacquer thinner. Scrub the tin with the solvent and steel wool thoroughly then rinse and dry. Now brush on the tin ager until you have the aging effect you are looking for. This step may take a few minutes depending on how dark you want your piece to look.

It is a chemical reaction of the metal surface with the oxygen present in the air that causes some of the metal to corrode (or oxidize) and form the respective metal oxide on the surface. In some metals such as steel, the corrosion products formed are very visible and loose.
Tarnish occurs gradually when the surface of metal is exposed to air and moisture. A chemical reaction begins to take place (known as oxidation), as the metal reacts with sulphur in the air which in turn, starts to form a dark layer all over the items in question.
At room temperature, tin is quite resistant to the impact of air or water, as a thin oxide film forms on the surface of the metal. In air, tin starts to oxidize at a temperature of over 150 C: Sn + O₂ SnO₂.
Soak the tinware in white vinegar. If you dont have enough white vinegar to cover the entirety of the object, you can soak a clean cloth in vinegar and wipe the tin. Scrub the rust off of the tinware using a rough sponge or aluminum foil, The longer you soak your tinware, the easier it will be to scrub the rust off.
