Max (Lighten) (Advanced) Does the opposite of the Min (Darken) mode. It takes two images and combines them by choosing the brightest pixel from each pair of corresponding pixels in the two images. For each spot in the combined image, it looks at the same spot in both original images and picks the brighter color.
The Darken mode compares the colors of the blending layer and the base layers, and keeps the darker colors. The Multiply mode multiplies the colors of the blending layer and the base layers, resulting in a darker color. This mode is useful for coloring shadows.
The Color blend mode preserves the luma of the bottom layer, while adopting the hue and chroma of the top layer. The Luminosity blend mode preserves the hue and chroma of the bottom layer, while adopting the luma of the top layer.
The Passthrough Blend Mode works by blending the current layer with the layers below it, rather than replacing them. This means that any changes made to the current layer will not affect the layers below it, and vice versa.
The Color Burn mode divides the inverted bottom layer by the top layer, and then inverts the result. This darkens the top layer increasing the contrast to reflect the color of the bottom layer. The darker the bottom layer, the more its color is used. Blending with white produces no difference.
In some ways the opposite of multiply, the screen blend mode ignores black. So a gradient of white to black will effectively look like a gradient of white to transparent. The white text is visible, but the black shadows are transparent.
Linear Burn decreases the brightness of the base color based on the value of the blend color. The result is darker than Multiply but less saturated than Color Burn. Linear Burn also produces the most contrast in darker colors than any of the other Blending Modes in the Darken category.
Hue: uses the blend layers hue while preserving the saturation and brightness of the base layer. Saturation: uses the blend layers levels of saturation but keeps the hue and brightness of the base layer. Color: uses the blend layers hue and saturation while preserving the brightness of the base layers.
