The Passthrough Blend Mode works by blending the current layer with the layers below it, rather than replacing them. This means that any changes made to the current layer will not affect the layers below it, and vice versa.
First, its important to know how to change a layers blending mode. You can find them at the top left of the Layers panel in the menu that usually says Normal. When you have a layer selected, use the keyboard shortcut Shift + and Shift - to switch through the various blend modes.
In Normal mode, the color is simply placed on top of the color of the layer below. This is the default blending mode. The blending mode setting appears at the top of the Layer palette. Additional blending modes for brushes and sub tools are available in the Sub Tool Detail palette Ink category.
With content selected, click the Opacity option in the Properties panel on the right to open the Transparency panel. Click Normal to open the Blending Mode menu. You can choose from a wide range of blending modes; they are grouped in the menu ing to their function.
Press Alt (Windows) or Option (macOS) while clicking the Mask button in the Layers panel to show the selected area. Mouse over the Blend modes to see the effect each one has and choose the one you like.
