If youre shooting in jpeg only, or JPEG + RAW, your camera will give you a choice of color space for the JPEGs. Id recommend using docHubRGB there. But again, if youre shooting RAW only, then you dont need to worry about any of the color space settings in your camera, they wont have any effect.
Virtually all current digital cameras can only capture one of three primary colors in each cavity, and so they discard roughly 2/3 of the incoming light. As a result, the camera has to approximate the other two primary colors in order to have full color at every pixel. RAW files are 14-bit files, which gives them the potential for up to 16,385 tones per channel, or up to 4 trillion colours. Image File Formats: RAW, JPEG more - Canon Oy Canon Oy pro infobank image-file-types Canon Oy pro infobank image-file-types
When you open a RAW file in Lightroom the first thing that you see is a JPEG preview. Once Lightroom has processed the data in the RAW file the JPEG preview is replaced by the RAW file. The RAW file is unprocessed, so appears darker, flatter, duller and with less contrast.
When shooting RAW, which I highly recommend, you only record the raw image data that the camera sensor receives, so no color space is embedded at this point. You therefore get to chose the color space to edit or export your images in in your RAW editor of choice (e.g.: Lightroom, Camera Raw or Capture One). docHubRGB vs sRGB, Which Color Space is Better for Photography? RAW files have 68 billion colors between black and white; JPEG files can have no more than 16 million colors.
A large majority of still cameras that shoot raw images capture and store the image as Bayer pattern data, which is called a mosaiced image. In these cameras, each sensor element sees and saves information about one color only, typically red, green or blue. RAW - dpBestflow dpBestflow node dpBestflow node
Raw files for images made in soft or low light should always looked washed out. Why? If they look good on the back of the camera, your image is well under-exposed. It will be nosier than properly exposed files, the colors will be muddier, and the file sizes will be smaller with less color information.
