There are many possible causes of black spots inside the cheek. These include blood blisters, amalgam tattoos, smoking, Addisons disease, and Peutz-Jeghers syndrome. In some cases, it can indicate oral cancer. Some people may require OTC treatments for causes that cause pain, such as blood blisters.
Laser treatments and peels A more aggressive option for lightening dark spots is laser treatment, which uses concentrated light energy. Some laser treatments target the pigment itself, while others work by removing the skin layer by layer. With this method, the darkened layers of skin are burned off.
A black spot inside your cheek is most likely a harmless condition such as a mole or hyperpigmentation. In very rare cases, it could be a type of cancer called oral melanoma. Finding a black spot or dot on the inside of your cheek can be alarming, but its not necessarily a sign of something serious.
Smokers melanosis usually occurs as blotchy stains along the gums and on the inside of the cheeks. Although smokers melanosis does not cause symptoms or require treatment, your dentist may recommend a biopsy to rule out oral cancer. These stains are also permanent and can only be removed with a laser.
