You may have some spotting or light bleeding after your cervical screening test. This is very common and should go away after a few hours.
Treating Abnormal Pap Smears The area from which the unhealthy cells were found is frozen. The frozen tissue is sloughed off by the body and new, healthy tissue will then grow in its place. During this process, a heavy, watery discharge may occur for approximately two weeks.
Sex hormones Changes in estrogen levels can impact the production of melanin, which can cause sensitive areas, such as the labia or s, to darken. In conditions that cause hormonal changes, such as pregnancy, increased estrogen can cause the vulva to appear as if it has dark spots or patches.
Cervical lesions are patches of abnormal cells growing on the cervix. Sometimes, cervical lesions are made of precancerous cells. Other times, cervical lesions contain cancerous cells. Thanks to regular screening methods, cervical cancer is not as common as it used to be.
Many people who have a Pap smear notice light bleeding, or spotting, for a couple of days after the test. This may be due to irritation of the cervix. This symptom may occur because the Pap smear can irritate the blood vessels of the cervix, which causes light bleeding.
It is quite common for patients to experience light bleeding or spotting after a Pap smear.
Cervical endometriosis may present as red, blue, or black cervical lesions (powder burns) (Figure 2, B) that do not blanch on compression. The patient may be asymptomatic or report symptoms of discharge, dysmenorrhea, pelvic pain, or deep dyspareunia.
As far as I know, a Pap smear doesnt affect your uterus enough to alter your period. If you do notice anything different after your exam (other than a bit of spotting or bleeding, which isnt uncommon), be sure and tell your healthcare professional.
