Looking for Signs of Bed Bugs When cleaning, changing bedding, or staying away from home, look for: Rusty or reddish stains on bed sheets or mattresses caused by bed bugs being crushed. Dark spots (about this size: ), which are bed bug excrement and may bleed on the fabric like a marker would.
These are not actual stains, but scorch marks from the drier. As in, if too many sheets are in there on too high of a temp, some parts get snagged in the drier bin concentrating the heat on that one spot before releasing causing small black scorch marks.
If youve found tiny black specks on your bed sheets, then youre probably dealing with flea dirt. But what is flea dirt anyway? Definition: Flea dirt is essentially the feces of fleas, composed mainly of undigested blood. Appearance: It looks like black dandruff or tiny black grains.
Black Spots These types of stains also come from blood or bed bug excrement but can appear darker if the blood or fecal matter is less fresh. Since bed bugs feed on blood, they often excrete this digested blood, and it can show up as a smattering of small dark spots on your sheets as time passes.
These colors are due to a pigment produced in the sweat glands called lipofuscin. Lipofuscin is common in human cells but, for some reason, people with chromhidrosis have higher concentrations of lipofuscin or lipofuscin that is in a higher-than-normal state of oxidation.
Natural Body Oils and Sweat: Over time, our bodies naturally produce oils and sweat, which can seep into the fabric, causing discoloration. These bodily fluids react with air and turn the sheets yellow over time.
Black, ink-like spots on the sheets, mattress or bed frame are one of the most recognisable tell-tale signs of bed bugs. However, very similar spots can be produced by spiders, flies and German cockroaches, so location can be an important factor in distinguishing the two.
If you have some random black spots on laundry and you have no clue where they came from, it may very well be mold or mildew. If left untreated, it will spell destruction for your laundry, eventually causing tears and holes in your favorite laundry.
