A shadow is formed when a light from a light source is obstructed by some object. When a shadow is formed it happens due to absorption of all light by an object from a light emitting source. As a result, a shadow is produced which is due to absorption or absence of light, hence black in colour.
The umbra region does not receive any direct light from any part of the light source and is the darkest. A viewer located in the umbra region cannot directly see any part of the light source. By contrast, the penumbra is illuminated by some parts of the light source, giving it an intermediate level of light intensity.
The size and darkness of a shadow depends on the relative position of the light source and the object, as well as the type of the object.
Translucent objects form the darkest shadows.
with little to no space for light to pass through. that means that object is considered opaque, meaning no light is able to pass through. and if that happens, the resulting shadow is either dark to completely black.
How come some shadows are darker than others? - Quora. Its not that the shadow is darker, its that the contrast between the lighted area is more profound usually because the light outside the shaded area has a higher brightness than times when the light source is more diffuse and so makes the shadow seem less intense
You can try to add a reflection probe and light probes to the scene so that the ambient light in the room matches the room and not the global one. Check your ambient light settings. You might want to turn it down. However you can not have different ambient light settings for subsections of your scene.
The luminous object can not cast a shadow in a dark room. Because it cant block the path of its own light and there is no other light source in the room.
