An abnormal Pap test result rarely means cancer is present, especially in someone who has regular, annual Pap tests. An abnormal result means there are cells in the cervix that look unusual, which can be caused by yeast or bacterial infection, irritation, benign growths, hormonal changes, or pre-cancer.
Thank you for taking the time to do your cervical screening (Pap) test. I am writing to let you know that your recent Pap test result is abnormal. An abnormal Pap test means that the cells taken from your cervix look different from normal cells. Your cell changes require follow-up testing.
6.1. 1 Papanicolaou Stain. The Papanicolaou stain is undoubtedly the most commonly used in cytology. It has three cytoplasmic dyes, orange G, eosin Y, and light blue.
Results and Interpretation of Papanicolaou Staining (Pap stain) Nuclei: Blue. Acidophilic cells: Red. Basophilic cells: Blue Green. Erythrocytes: Orange-red to dark pink. Keratin: Orange-red. Superficial cells: Pink. Intermediate and Parabasal Cells: Blue-Green. Eosinophil: Orange Red.
Typically, we first think of Pap tests (Pap smears) as a specific type of cytological test identifying cancerous cells in cervical tissue. However, Pap stains can also be conducted on non-gynecological specimens from a variety of bodily secretions and from small needle biopsies of organs and tissues.
The principle of pap stain Solution 2 has OG-6, an acidic cytoplasmic stain, has orange G with phosphotungstic acid (6 denotes the used concentration of phosphotungstic acid). Orange G is an acid dye and stains keratin with a bright intense orange.
Also known as cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN), cervical dysplasia is another term for the presence of precancerous cervical cells. It refers to abnormal cells that have not grown past the surface layer of the cervix.
The principle of pap stain Solution 1 has Hematoxylin stain, a basic nuclear stain. Solution 2 has OG-6, an acidic cytoplasmic stain, has orange G with phosphotungstic acid (6 denotes the used concentration of phosphotungstic acid).
