Use Portrait Mode: When taking a photo, use Portrait Mode and select Stage Light Mono. This will automatically darken the background and turn it black while keeping your subject illuminated. Edit in Photos App: Open the photo you want to edit, tap on Edit and select the BW filter.
There are three basic ways to darken images: through brightness, contrast, or saturation. Brightness refers to the presence of light; turning it down reduces the light to darken image. This is a good easy fix for overexposed (i.e., over bright) images.
Set your cameras ISO to a low level, from 100 to 125. This decreases the cameras sensitivity to light, which will darken your photos background and remove unwanted texture. Adjust your shutter speed to compensate for these changes.
Choose Affinity Photo 2Settings (or Preferences). Choose EditSettings (or Preferences). Click the User Interface label. Drag the sliders to set the Background Gray level, Artboard Background Gray level and/or UI Gamma level.
Create a new layer. Pick a paint brush with a nice soft edge. Set your brush colour to black. Paint away the areas you want black.
Darkening a background can be as simple as burning it in, or as complex as masking it, separating it, putting it on its own layer, or changing it altogether for a different one. Burning in is a time-honored technique for adding exposure to an area or anything you want to make darker in the picture.
