Also, dried blood often has a darker, rust-coloured quality: all dried blood has been oxygenated and then desiccated, causing the cells within it to die. This blood is often darker than either shade of red that can be seen in fresh blood.
Rather, you might experience spotting during early pregnancy, which is usually light pink or dark brown in color. As a rule of thumb, if theres enough bleeding to fill a pad or tampon, then its a sign youre probably not pregnant. If youve had a positive pregnancy test and are bleeding heavily, seek medical care.
Blood that is dark purple or blue in color generally indicates high estrogen levels. In addition to its dark color, purple or blue blood usually also contains clots and lasts longer than a week. If left untreated, high estrogen levels can lead to the development of endometriosis, fibroids, or ovarian cysts.
Dark red blood: Dark red blood is simply blood that has been in the vagina for longer. It can even be seen with blood clots. Clotting is also considered normal unless the clots are larger than the size of quarters. Brown or black blood: These are color variations seen in blood that has taken longer to exit the vagina.
Why Does Period Blood Have Different Colors? The color of blood becomes darker the longer it stays inside your uterus and vagina because it starts to react with oxygen. The reaction causes the color to get darker. The longer the blood stays inside your body, the darker it gets.
Much like brown period blood, this is simply old blood that was chilling in your body for too long. If your period blood is black, it can also sometimes have the consistency of coffee grounds, which is simply your menses reacting to being exposed to an acidic environment.
Black-colored blood usually appears at the beginning or end of a persons menstrual cycle or after pregnancy. It can be a normal indication that blood has taken extra time to exit the uterus. However, black discharge may also be due to other causes, such as a miscarriage or infection.
Black blood may suggest implantation bleeding, which can happen as a sign of conception. So, if you notice black spotting and havent had a period, you may want to consider taking a pregnancy test. You may also notice black blood during your regular menstrual cycle, usually at the beginning or end of your period.
