Overcome your fear of drawing dark. Use a black color pencil to draw the deepest darks. Tone down the half-tones and brighten the highlights to make darker sections of your drawing appear even darker. Gradually build up the values by layering graphite on paper. Draw with a softer pencil grade like a 2B or 4B.
Separate your lines from the background. Change mode to Grayscale. Go to Channels palette. Select Load Channel as Selection. Go to the Layers palette. Press Delete to get rid of the background. Press Ctrl + D to deselect the background. Change Mode to RGB Color. Add Solid Color adjustment layer.
Work with the Burn tool The Burn tool darkens areas of an image. The more you paint over an area with the Burn tool, the darker it becomes. From the toolbar, click and hold the icon for the Dodge, Burn, or Sponge retouching tool, whichever is active. Select the Burn tool ( ) from the available options.
If the scanned lineart is light you can slide the black handle in the input levels to the right to make it darker or if you want to remove the gray areas you can slide the white handle to the left. Auto levels is a quick way to adjust tone of an image.
Slide the small white triangle under the Output Levels section to the left. Note as you drag, the line becomes darker. When you are satisfied, click OK to close the Levels window and return to your darker line.
Lineweights or transparency in the plot style table Type PLOT on the command line. Press the button next to the Plot Style Table to edit the CTB file. In the Form View Tab, edit the Lineweight for color 1 as desired. Click Save As to make a new Plot Style Table. Name the new Plot Style Table file. Press Save and Close.
