How Do I Darken an Overexposed Area in Photoshop? To darken an area in your photo, use the Burn tool. Set it to Highlights in the top menu and just paint over the area you want to darken. The Exposure is set to 50% by default but you should start with a value of around 10%.
There are a couple different ways that you can change the brightness of a specific area in Photoshop. One way is to use the Levels tool. To do this, go to Image-Adjustments-Levels or press Ctrl+L.
One way is to use the Burn Tool. With the Burn Tool selected, you can then hover over the area that you want to darken and click and drag. The more you drag, the darker the area will become. Another way to darken an area is to use a Levels Adjustment Layer.
To make your iPhone photos brighter first open the iPhone photos app. Then select a picture and tap on the edit button. To begin slide the circle menu to the left to see the brightening options. These options include adjusting the exposure, brilliance, highlights, shadows, and contrast.

The Burn tool darkens areas of an image. The more you paint over an area with the Burn tool, the darker it becomes. From the toolbar, click and hold the icon for the Dodge, Burn, or Sponge retouching tool, whichever is active.
Select Accessibility in the Categories section. Check the box next to Replace Document Colors. Select a darker color combination from the drop-down menu next to High Contrast Color Combinations or go to Custom Color and pick a darker color for the Page Background and Document Text. When done, click OK.
