hey everyone itamp;#39;s Oliver Lindley here from one number and today weamp;#39;re going to take a look at building multiple Legends for a single measure in tableau you might have run into a situation like this where weamp;#39;ve got a crosstab looking at our sales across various years for each category and subcategory and currently because our sum of salespill is on the marks card we have here on the colors tab on our marks card we have a color Legend what might be helpful though is to create a different legend for each year if what we wanted to see was how much our sales different from the average or uh what were the biggest and smallest values in one year you know we could start asking some questions like that but in order to do that weamp;#39;ll need to work around some of the limitations that Tableau has at the moment um you know kind of the way that it creates Legends out of a measure so hereamp;#39;s what weamp;#39;re going to do Iamp;#39;m going to open up this second a

Yes, if the requirements for adding the legend are not present, the Legend option will be grayed out.
So, how can you show the legend in such cases? On the dashboard, select the worksheet that contains the legend. Open the drop-down arrow on the top right corner of the worksheet. Under legends chose the legend you would like to add to the view.
Right-click (Control-click on Mac) the legend and select Edit Colours. Click the colour indicator next to the colour ramp and select a new colour in the spectrum. You can also specify one or more of the following options: Stepped Colour groups the values into uniform bins each given a unique colour.
A workaround I found is to remove the color dimension and then hit Ctrl+Z to bring it back. It automatically brings back the legend too.
Step 1: In the Analysis menu, in Legends, click on Color Legend. Step 2: Right-click on the visualization, and select Color Legend in Legends. Step 3: In the case of the dashboard, in the drop-down menu, click on Color Legend in Legends.
In the drawing area, select the legend. Click Modify Color Fill Legends tab Scheme panel Edit Scheme. In the Edit Color Scheme dialog, select a different color scheme from the list, and click OK. You can also create a new color scheme in this dialog.
How to Edit the Alias of an Item in a Color Legend in Tableau Right-click on one of the items in a color legend. Select Edit Alias Enter the desired alias.
The color legend can either be categorical or quantitative. A categorical legend represents discrete categories such as customer names and regions while a quantitative legend represents a range of numeric values such as sales and profit.
