You can lighten or darken areas of a texture image using the Dodge and Burn tools. The Dodge tool lightens color values as you stroke and is useful for revealing highlights, while the Burn tool darkens color values and is useful for toning down highlights.
For example, drag the Exposure slider to the left to darken the area outside a radial gradient, giving the effect of a lighter spotlight on a subject inside the gradient. You can add color, effects, and other adjustments to the same radial gradient.
The Dodge tool and the Burn tool lighten or darken areas of the image. These tools are based on a traditional darkroom technique for regulating exposure on specific areas of a print.
One way is to use the Burn Tool. With the Burn Tool selected, you can then hover over the area that you want to darken and click and drag. The more you drag, the darker the area will become. Another way to darken an area is to use a Levels Adjustment Layer.
To fix overexposed photos in Lightroom, you always start with the Highlight slider moving it to the left. Next, you follow with the White adjustment, slowly dragging it to negative values. In the last step, you use the Exposure slider to bring the overall exposure to the desired level.
The Burn tool darkens areas of an image. The more you paint over an area with the Burn tool, the darker it becomes. From the toolbar, click and hold the icon for the Dodge, Burn, or Sponge retouching tool, whichever is active.

The Exposure tool brightens or darkens your photo. Drag the slider right to brighten the image, or left to darken it. The Exposure tool has more effect on the highlights than the shadows. This means that the bright tones in your photo are affected more than the dark tones.
